9.18 Capillary Effect

If the liquid makes an acute angle with the surface of tube, then liquid rise in the capillary tube and its free surface, called meniscus, is concave in upward direction. On the other hand, of the liquid makes an obtuse angle, then liquid fall and the meniscus is convex upward as shown in figure.
