Reproductive cloning techniques are used to produce multiple copies of an animal with the same genotype this is known as cloning and till date a number of animals have been cloned like cattle, sheep, horses, mules, pigs, cats, rats, goats and mice beginning with the first cloned animal in 1996, a sheep named Dolly.
The reproductive cloning is achieved by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), in which nucleus from the egg cell (the oocyte) is removed and replaced with a nucleus from the donor adult somatic cell (any cell except oocyte or spermatocyte), further the embryo is implanted into the uterus of a surrogate female where it further develops.
