Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:

· establish and implement a complete work health and safety (WHS) system that covers the following components:

o adequate facilities for the welfare of employees

o appropriate management of incidents or accidents and notification to WHS government regulators

o availability of information, instructions, training and supervision that ensure employees’ health and safety

o safe:

§ machinery, equipment and materials

§ premises

§ provision of entrances and exits that are safe

§ systems of work

§ work environment

· evaluate and identify improvements to WHS practices within the above system

· develop comprehensive WHS system documents to support above system

· demonstrate management practices that must be established and maintained for compliance of above system with state or territory occupational health and safety (OHS) or WHS legislation.

Resource Requirements

Refer to the Assessment conditions attached to the Futura Group Mapping Document located in the teacher support tools folder or the “Assessment Conditions” for this unit in the SIT 1.0 Training Package.

For this assessment access to the following resources are essential:

· the completed WHS system developed by the student in Assessment 1, Project

· the Presentation Plan developed by the student Assessment 1, Project

· a team in a workplace or simulated environment for which the WHS system is developed.

Instructions for assessment including WHS requirements

Assessment 2 requires you to present your WHS system to your colleagues and teacher or trainer in class or to co-workers and supervisor in the workplace. The specific details are outlines in the instructions for the observation below. The suggested timeframe is 20 minutes or as instructed by your trainer.

The Marking criteria below provide a reference for essential key criteria to be addressed and included for this assessment. Your trainer may vary this as relevant to the workplace context and organisational requirements.

Assessment 2

You are required to present the completed WHS system to colleagues relevant to the workplace or simulated workplace as determined in assessment 1.

Your Tasks:

  1. Make a short presentation of your developed WHS system.
  2. Explain to your audience the purpose of the WHS system you have developed including an overview of the legal ramifications of failing to observe WHS laws and codes of practice.
  3. Communicate the individual responsibilities of staff in WHS procedures including ongoing consultation and risk assessment procedures.
  4. Present the components and mechanisms of your developed system and seek feedback on:
  • Completeness in terms of policies and procedures
  • Provisions for communication and consultation
  • Accessibility and user friendliness

Document all feedback received in your presentation plan.

  1. Following the presentation and feedback received from your colleagues or peers compile this feedback received and provide a detailed summary with an overview of aspects that were queried or required improvement or further actions. Explain how you will address and rectify each aspect accordingly.
