Executive MBA Module: MGMT 665 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course deals with the central issues in operations management, especially those related to design and implementation of a successful operations strategy. These issues include production and capacity planning, facility location and production allocation for multi-plant operations, global operations management, and response time management. This course draws examples from many industries including service sectors and covers a variety of frameworks and quantitative tools for analyzing operations problems.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The aims of this course are to enable students to:

  1. Understand the interdependence of the operating system with other key functional areas of the firm.
  2. Appreciate the role of operations management in the overall business strategy of the firm.
  3. Identify and evaluate the key factors and the interdependence of these factors in the design of effective operating systems.
  4. Evaluate a range of tools appropriate for the analysis of operating systems of the firm.
  5. Apply or understand the application of operations management policies and techniques to service and manufacturing sectors.
