Inflammation
Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury, infection, or harmful stimuli, aimed at protecting and healing tissues. It involves a complex interplay of immune cells, signaling molecules, and proteins. There are two types: acute inflammation, which is a short-term response characterized by redness, heat, swelling, pain, and loss of function, and chronic inflammation, which persists over time and can contribute to diseases like heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.
Key components of inflammation include the release of cytokines, prostaglandins, and acute-phase proteins like CRP. While inflammation is essential for healing, uncontrolled or prolonged inflammation can lead to tissue damage and disease.
