A Christian Worldview: Love, Faith And Grace

What is a worldview? A worldview encompasses someone’s beliefs and values which build the footing for how each one of us live our life. It is like a looking glass, like how someone views the world around them, how they understand the way the world works, and why good and bad happen. A worldview is something not seen but believed and are used to understand why things happen for the good or the bad. Three essentials of building a strong Christian worldview are: love, faith, and grace. God is love and if someone does not know love they do not know God. By knowing God and what God’s purpose is, is rooted in faith. Grace is the ability to show God through ourselves when good is done to one another. This essay is intended to show how all three essentials come together to make a Christian worldview.

Love

One important trait God has is love. God loves everyone, not just as most would say, “the good people.” As discussed by BibleProject-Philemon, “God’s love is not based on race, gender or social/economical class.” Every human being “created” according to Paul, and discussed by Mr. Hudson in the essay, “Humans are Hopeless,” by God because every human being is a child of Adam, an image of God. God intends for all human beings to be equal. For all to be equal, everyone must have love in their hearts. 1 John 4:8, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” This verse is meant to show one needs love to have a fellowship and relationship with God. Love is one of God’s many characteristics, and is fundamental in God’s purpose in the world. One of the most famous and familiar bible verses is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God gave his son on the cross because God loves his people unconditionally and so people would have love in their hearts and be able to have a relationship with God. People cannot be God; however, people should strive to be like God and spread love among each other. God wants people to walk in his likeness. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NIV, “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” This verse is true in showing people need to show love in how they treat people daily. In the world today, it is easy to get wrapped up in the anger and frustration, however one needs to focus on the love God gave from the beginning of creation and continues to give today. It is stated by Mr. Hudson in The Foundations of Christian Thought and Practice, “we can know God without fully comprehending God, and we can love God without complete understanding.”
