The ground investigation for the building project reveals the following:

a). The existing ground has an allowable bearing pressure of 300 kN/m2; it is anticipated that the foundations for the building will consist of spread (i.e. pad) foundations.

2). The column at the junction of grid lines C and 3 as shown in Figure 1. The column does not support the roof of the building but carries 3 suspended floors as shown in Figure 2.

3). The foundation for the column designed in 2), above.
