Construction practise being studied: Formwork

Part1

Four categories for form systems (ACI,2005).

● Disposable forms which can be assembled on the jobsite.● Prefabricated conventional forms that can be reused.● Manufactured modular panel forms.

Outline in a concise way the practice that you are studying.

Method/Performance Observed

The design of vertical formwork observed on the construction is exactly shown on Figure 2 and the cross section part is displayed on Figure 3. Studs are made up of 95mm x 47mm timber LVL’s to support the sheathing and wales are made up of double 95mm x 47mm timber LVL’s to provide support for the studs. Form ties are installed through forms to resist the concrete pressure bursting. By the observation, the total height of this formwork is 3.35m. A 300mm thick, 12.5m long, 3m high wall is poured into this formwork with a pump having a delivery rate at the nozzle of 25m^3/hr. Assume the concrete density is 2400kg/m^3 and concrete temperature at the placement is 25C. The concrete uses GB cement and has no retarders or super plasticizing admixtures. Therefore, the design pressure envelope for this concrete wall is 67.35kPa.

Purpose-what is achieved
Concrete formwork is a temporary structure providing the support to freshly concrete until it can
support the imposed load by itself.

Is it necessary?

Long term alternative: Wall formwork reuse, which will reduce the cost of formwork.
