What happens if your result is ‘Not Yet Competent’ for one or more assessment tasks?

The assessment process is designed to answer the question “has the participant satisfactorily demonstrated competence yet?” If the answer is “Not yet”, then we work with you to see how we can get there.

You can request a form to make an appeal and submit it to your Trainer, the Course Coordinator, or an Administration Officer. The RTO will examine the appeal and you will be advised of the outcome within 14 days. Any additional information you wish to provide may be attached to the form.

What if I believe I am already competent before training?

Task 1 – Detailed Design – Concrete Bridge

This assessment task requires you to prepare detailed designs of a concrete bridge including:

  • shear forces

  • bending moments

  • sizes of components for civil concrete structure

  • preparing civil concrete structures design plans

  • maintaining design and cost records

  • validating designs

  • accessing and interpreting required documentation, including:

  • plans

  • geotechnical information

  • hydrological, meteorological, cultural and heritage data

  • industry or government standard design software

  • engineering graphical presentation techniques

A full schematic design is required including cost estimates for the designed structure, sketches, CAD drawings and models as required. These should be submitted as a portfolio for assessment.

As such, your portfolio will include:

  • drawings

  • risk assessment of:

  • contribution to ancillary documentation, which may include:

  • design notes

Task 1 – Detailed Design – Concrete Bridge (Response)

Task 2 – Detailed Design – Major Road Noise Barrier (Concrete)

  • loads

  • shear forces

  • mass

  • sizes of components for civil concrete structure

  • providing clarification and advice to personnel implementing the design

  • maintaining design and cost records

  • implement the requirements, procedures and techniques to prepare detailed design of civil concrete structures, including:

  • accessing and interpreting required documentation, including:

  • engineering surveys

  • geotechnical information

  • computer aided drafting design (CADD) and drafting technology

  • industry or government standard design software

  • communicating with others to coordinate work activities.

A full schematic design is required including cost estimates for the designed structure, sketches, CAD drawings and models as required. These should be submitted as a portfolio for assessment.

  • construction cost estimates

  • drawings

  • health, safety and environmental requirements

  • contribution to ancillary documentation, which may include:
