Analysis of my current role, responsibilities and leadership challenges
The clear impact of this well laid out organization has been felt by the upper management division overseeing us. As they have met with most of the issues that they were facing with respect to managerial issues and the team. My inputs are now received well by the management, work is effectively delegated and decision-making powers have been entrusted upon me. This was initially a challenge, but as time progressed and we showed more cohesion, we could relate more to the organizational goals within our work program. Another major problem that I faced was the cultural shock that I experienced with respect to both the diversity and the ethnicity of the people working with me and under me. This particular experience opened me up towards a more equitable approach to pursue. The effect was more pronounced in the areas where in it was difficult to communicate the correct set of objectives to the team members and wherein it was also difficult for the team to work together. The effect of the same was profound as people tend to empathize more with people who they can trust. This meant, in order to remove any strain of insularity building up, I had to personally reach out to everyone, understand their point of view, reiterate the commitment towards any given task and restore the sense of team spirit within the team. As a result, each and every team member felt themselves as an important cog in the wheel and my personal interdiction felt that management was helping them move towards something worthy of their own time. This was how my present team was built by me. I realized that to become an effective leader, it is important to empathize, communicate, convey your intentions strongly and show extreme commitment in getting anything done (Brown, 2003). This is how I am going to stick to in order to hone my leadership skills, teambuilding skills and to fill in the new set of responsibility that awaits me. Going forward, my objectives will be very clear as I re-evaluate my self on any benchmarking test I am yet to undertake.
Analysis of key aspects of my leadership journey
My leadership in retrospect has been derived more from a practical experience and later reinforced by the classroom theory which has enabled me to focus on more on developing a dynamical leader that can make quick decisions on the fly and succeed within the framework offered by day to day professional life. The lessons have only been reinforced by the failures that I have faced so far in the professional life and further derived from observing keenly all the immediate superiors going about doing all of their leadership tasks. It was essential to seek mentorship of someone who has been in my role, to derive a first hand account of experience and a mindset required to do my job. This was fortunately provided to me by my immediate manager. He pointed me towards aggressive upskilling to survive in a business as usual environment. The benefits increased when I was pointed out towards a managerial approach of approaching any given task. This help me develop a big picture strategy of doing any task. I used to extensively participate in any given decision-making meetings, I took initiative to be part of meetings wherein we used to discuss key milestones and what was required to deliver them. To test my ever-increasing skill set, I tried everything out I learnt in field and had to continuously take stock of the situation, course correct and redeploy. This gave me a very dynamic set of leadership parameters regarding the situational awareness.
Results & interpretation of my Gallup Strengths Finder
I have undertaken the GALLUP test which reflects my top five dynamic leadership themes or traits. It will help me in developing my leadership skills further and making me a more competent technician manager in future (Catell, 1966):
Restorative- I am a problem solver at heart, I love to be challenged with any kind of problems that can be solved. Creating a realistic solution is my chief skill that I bring to the table. All the problem-solving ability comes from my experiences, which I can draw insights from. I strongly feel that I have the correct set of intuition that is required to revitalized any operation, any machine and in my case any phone. Restoration is where my heart truly lies. Effective solutions are what my unique selling point is.
Conclusion
Concluding this self-evaluation by saying that I still have a lot more to achieve when it comes to embracing and becoming adept at dynamic leadership, something which I can do as per the feedback received and GALLUP evaluation I encountered, which has been nothing less than significant for making me realize that there is a sea of self-improvement that I need to cover.
Recommendations
The only recommendation I need to mete out is that I will take up more courses in honing my managerial skill development and I will furthermore take more initiatives which involves more beyond my comfort zone. This will help me gather new insights.
