1.3 Change Forum

I have been experiencing change continuously throughout my life. One of the biggest changes that I have experienced was migrating from my home country to practice nursing in Canada. I can relate this experience with Bridges (2009) statement (as cited in NURS 250 Unit 2

2.1 Student Voice Forum

While I was reading the article written by Melrose and Wishart, (2013) I could relate to many of the research findings that they gathered. Being an LPN working on a long-term care floor, I work alongside the RN. The RN is supposed to be my supervisor, someone I can go to for guidance when I need answers. However, on my unit, the situation is different. We both have a group of residents that we take care for independently. There are times that I had to orientate new RNs, to their RN roles on the unit or sometimes work as the RN on the floor if there is no RN available. I have done very well managing and being the team lead therefore I believe that LPNs can work as RN if they are properly trained. I do relate with the Melrose and Wishart (2013) article on the subject’s responses that “RNs were being paid much more than LPNs and they do the same work”. I struggled with this idea while working with the RNs, because I believe it was unfair for them to be paid much more than me when we have the same responsibilities on the floor. Even though I felt as if there were no differences in the RN’s role and my role, it felt good at times working as the LPN on the unit because I am sheltered by the RN. One change I look forward to in my transition from LPN role to BN role is having independence, not having to be sheltered by a RN. What ever resistance I am facing now, I hope that throughout my transition I will reach out, reimagine, and eventually gain independence. (Melrose & Wishart, 2013).

1. In this case, who is the family?

The members of this family are as follows: Parents Bob and Jan, their children Mike, Tom, and Ashley, and Aunt Martha who is a friend of Jen’s mother.

a. What health promotion strategies has Bob tried in attempt to quit smoking?

b. How does the family plan on addressing the changes to the children’s activity fees, so that they do not become financially overburden, or have to discontinue the activities? c. How does Aunty Martha contribute to the household?
