The objective of the group-based assignment is to identify a new
business venture and to apply the process of planning for the new
venture from the pre-start-up phase of venture creation to pre-launch
activities.
By doing so, students will be able to appreciate the various challenges
and complexities in the process of planning for a new venture; develop
skills in performing feasibility analyses and preparing business plans;
and be prepared to plan for change in a volatile and dynamic business
environment.
Students are required to form groups of four to write a business plan
for a new business venture. The purpose of the plan is to obtain funding
from a banker or venture capitalist.
Students' responsibility is to select a business venture that shows
their skills in organising businesses which is reflected in preparing
feasibility reports. Some business ventures, for example, providing
consutancy services may not require much analysis. In another example,
business ventures for new franchises will have much analyses already
prepared by the franchisors. In these cases, the feasibility reports
will be marked according to the value added by the students.
This is an academic assignment as well as professional assignment.
Therefore, unlike a professional business plan students will need to
include a brief discussion of the methodology used and its reference for
each section of the business plan.
The business plan should have the sections as shown below. A general
overview of marks allocation is also shown.
