Competence
Dimensions of competency
To be deemed competent, you must show your ability to perform effectively in a broad capacity and in variety of different situations.
You must demonstrate the following skills:
Transfer skills: This is the ability to transfer your skills and knowledge to new situations and contexts.
Formative assessment
During the workshops, there will be opportunities for you to receive feedback from your trainer on how you are progressing in relation to the course requirements. Your trainer may ask you questions or observe how you complete tasks, and then give you feedback that helps you understand what is required. This is called ‘formative assessment’.
Principles of assessment and rules of evidence
Principles of assessment
UIE has mapped all tasks to the specific unit of competency requirements to ensure that the skills and knowledge required are covered.
Assessment tasks are varied and completed over a period of time and, where required, on a number of occasions.
Flexible assessment means that the assessment process is flexible and can be varied to suit individual circumstances or needs of learners.
You might ask for an extension of time to complete a task, or ask to complete a task at an alternative time if you are going on holidays.
The assessor must note if any adjustments have been made in the assessment summary at the end of each task.
You can appeal any assessment decision. Information about the appeals process is included in this assessment guide.
Rules of evidence
Assessors have a marking guide developed by UIE for each module. They use this to compare your responses to benchmark answers and the standard required in each assessment task.
The assessor records your assessment outcomes for each task in your assessment guide.
For authenticity, the evidence is about you and not someone else.
You are required to sign the candidate declaration, indicating that the work you have submitted for assessment is your own.
Workplace-based tasks give you the opportunity to use the technology, tools and equipment that you use every day in your workplace.
Reasonable adjustment
As a vocational education and training provider, UIE must ensure that
learners with recognised disabilities can access and participate in
education and training on ‘the same basis’ as learners without
disabilities. This means having access to the same educational
opportunities and choices as all other learners.
Maintain the competency standards
Be reasonable to expect in a workplace.
Mean that the learner does not meet the requirements of the qualification being studied.
You should indicate that you have a particular need when you enrol in the course.
