2. How can you support your student’s education in the learning environment and at home? I can
setting, I would volunteer as much as I could.
4. What methods of communication would you prefer the teacher use to keep you informed?
1. What do you believe your role should be in the education of your student? My role is to make sure I am working at home with my child as much as I can.
2. How can you support your student’s education in the learning environment and at home? I can support my child's education at home by doing activities with him each night.
Above are my interviews with two of my current families I have! So, it's a little clearer, I am not the normal "classroom" setting. I am a preschool home visitor. So, I work with families that do not want to send their child into the classroom yet-but have a preschool teacher come to their house. Right now, that looks a lot different due to COVID. Typically, I would go into the homes once or twice a week. We follow "Parents As Teachers" curriculum where we strongly
encourage the parents or guardians to be that child’s educational role. I am still there for support and mostly still do the activities with the child. We pick out an Activity from our curriculum which focuses on language, social emotional, cognitive, motor. We also do math every time we visit. We have different components (nutrition, health, dental, outdoor, transportation, financial) we pick one of those each week. A child must have an activity in all those components each month! I also set a family goal which i focus on each week and take any help/resources to them to help them accomplish that goal. It can be as simple as "getting a driver’s license" or anything really achievable to reach within the 9-month program year. Right now, I do everything virtually over zoom. I still drop the materials off they need then we meet virtually. I also do a "social" every other week. This is where all my families get together and my students get that
"classroom" feel. We would normally do it in the classroom, have a circle time, do activities, lunch and brush teeth. Right now, that is all virtual as well. That is the basics of my jobs right now!Technology is so important today. One because it's just growing today, and two, with the current pandemic, it's being used even more so. Zoom, email, apps, and so much more can really help you better connect with your child’s educators and overall classroom experience!
