My Life Journey Essay

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves” (Viktor Frankl 1905-1997). This quote really speaks to where I am in my journey of life. Life if full of changes, and I am a believer that everything happens for a reason.

Through this paper I will give a brief explanation of my upbringing and experiences, how my career path thus far, and my future goals through my adult development. Growing up, my mother stayed home with my younger sister and I while my father worked. My mother spent time volunteering in our classrooms, hosting play dates, and enjoyed taking us shopping and to the beach.We were often on the go, but my mother always made the time to help me through my struggles in learning through school. She taught me many techniques on how to study and learn. She always took the time to help me break things down to help me understand new concepts. As a child and even now I have a fear dogs.

I jumped on it! Within a year I was promoted to an off site director position, then three years ago was promoted again to the Childcare Director. With only an Associates Degree in Early Childhood, I had made it further then I ever expected in my career, and was pretty determined I would never return to school.MY LIFE 4. After almost 2 years in the director role I was burnt out of the management end of childcare. I missed being in a role where I could spend more time with children and families.

After several conversations with my executive director on where I was at professionally I was given an opportunity to start up a new program at the YMCA, Family Programming. After a little hesitation due to fear of the risk that in a year I could possibly face the program not making it, I decided to go for it, family is what the YMCA is all about, it had to work.Two weeks into the third month of the newly established program I was told that despite my efforts the budget was not going to be able to sustain my position. I would have 6 weeks to finish out the program. After thirteen years of employment I was offered a short term sub position for a lead teacher going on maternity leave back in the Y’s childcare center. It came with a significant pay and benefit cut. I was heart broken. The YMCA was like an extended family for me, and I knew it was time for me to move on.
