Lean Training Workshop

Program for Operations Excellence—Masters in Manufacturing Management—McGill University

Lean is the term used to describe the Toyota Production System (TPS) developed in the post World War II years. The concept started in a manufacturing environment, and gradu-ally was applied to the whole company spectrum, including the supply chain, marketing, new product development and services.

Lean is not simply an effective business improvement tool; it is a way of running a busi-ness. The objective of lean thinking is to create more value for customers,
employees and owners through a value creation process that minimizes waste along the entire value stream by continuously looking for improvement and striving for perfection. Lean provides a way to deliver customers with exactly what they want, when they want it, with the least amount of effort, assets, equipment, time and space.
