Unit 3: Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities
Algebraic Expression : A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers, and at least one variable.
Exponent : A number that indicates how many times its base is used as a factor
Equation : A mathematical sentence or statement that two quantities are equal.
Inequality : A mathematical sentence or statement that two expression are not equal.
Commutative Property of Addition : In addition, the order of the terms does not change the sum.
Inverse Property of Multiplication : Any number multiplied by its reciprocal will always equal one. 3 x 1/3 = 1
Terms : A number, a variable, or a product of numbers and variables separated by addition or subtraction.
Like Terms : Terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power.
Inverse Operations : Two operations that undo each other. Also known as Opposite Operations.
Numerical Expression : A mathematical phrase that contains numbers and operations. May be simplified using the Order of Operations (PEMDAS).
