8th Grade Math Review
rational number : a number that can be expressed as a ratio (fraction) of two integers - terminating and repeating decimals are considered rational
irrational number : Any real number which cant be expressed as a fraction of two integers
slope-intercept form : y=mx+b
undefined : Denominator equals zero
line of best fit : the most accurate trend line on a scatter plot showing the relationship between two sets of data
slope : A measure of the steepness of a line. Given two points with coordinates (X1,Y1) and (x2,y2) on a line the slope, m, of the line is given m = rise/run= y2-y1/x2-x1
perfect square : a square of a whole number
real number : All rational and irrational numbers
median : The middle number in the set (if two numbers are in the middle, find the average of the two numbers)
mode : Most
input : Data that is to be entered into a worksheet
output : Data that has been processed into a useful format.
radius : A straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere.
perimeter : The distance around a figure
scatter plot : A graph with points plotted to show a possible relationship between two sets of data.
negative correlation : A finding that two factors vary systematically in opposite directions, one increasing as the other decreases.
