This year also marked the opening of Dr. Stefanie Blain-Moraes’ innovative, educational research project at the The exhibit is entitled, “Feelings Are More Than Skin Deep,” and aims to educate the public on how emotions and feelings are connected to physiological body changes. Dr. Blain-Moraes’ ultimate goal with this project is to develop a system that will be able to translate the emotions of an individual who has difficulty communicating (e.g. individuals with autism, dementia, and severe traumatic brain injury) for their family and caregivers. While visitors to the exhibit view a number of videos, physiological nervous system signals, such as skin temperature, heart rate and electronic changes on the skin’s surface are collected via a finger sensor. This information is then transformed using a technology that Dr. Blain-Moraes has developed called, ‘biomusic’ into the visitor’s own personal ‘emotional music.’ A similar exhibit in “The Body Electric” entitled “Biomusic: Sonification of the Body Electric” was also installed at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Quebec City in October, 2017.
As of Spring 2017, Dr. Laurie Snider was named Interim Director for the School. Dr. Annette Majnemer

The current focus of Healthy SPOT is to promote a work/life balance for students and staff, and to establish and maintain collaborations with McGill’s WELL office. A survey was developed to assess the health attitudes and needs of everyone at SPOT. Based on the results of this anonymous survey, workshops or activities will be established to promote a healthy SPOT.
Community & Partnerships: To advance our educational contribution and social accountability to local and global communities. To support and further develop the six SPOT strategic initiatives currently in place: the Global Health Initiative, Strauss KT, UQAC PT program, online certificates (Driving and Pain), PT equivalency program, and Interprofessional Education (IPE). Strategic Plan Progress updates
The three areas of recommendation were space, communication/procedures with respect to administrative functions, and teaching/funding issues. These points are being addressed by the relevant strategic goal.
Space: one of our main strategic goals, encompassing two main issues: physical space, and the systemic use of space, e.g. the procedure for room bookings for which we have entered into a discussion with our colleagues in the Undergraduate Medical Education Program.
