QUAL 551 - Chapter 15

Everything discussed so far in this course can be termed "off-line quality

The important point is this: In off-line experimentation, there is no attempt to create salable product.

Ideally, the best results (i.e., factor levels, operating conditions, etc.) of off-line experimentation are transferred to manufacturing.

This is termed "toss it over the fence" to manufacturing.

In this scenario, it is evident that initial yields will often be low and that production will be plagued by many problems.

Unfortunately, manufacturing is usually blamed when this occurs.

In a word, EVOP says "fix it even if it ain't broke!"

This fits with current thinking on the continuous improvement process.

EVOP - The Human Element

The ideal is to have everyone from top management to the production worker involved in—and committed to—the process.

Interested students should read Box & Hunter's Evolutionary Operation text for details (See your class syllabus).

In cycle 3, we finally pool our data and make a determination of best conditions.
