Draw schematic and label the node numbers
Problem :
Using problem 4.87 in Introduction to Heat Transfer, Bergman, 6th
edition as a guide. A straight fin of uniform cross section is
fabricated from a material of thermal conductivity k = 5 W/m*K,
thickness w = 20 mm and lengh L = 200 mm. The fin is very long in the
direction normal to the page. The base of the fin is maintained at Tb =
200 degrees C, and the tip conditions allow for convection (case A of
Table 3.4), with h = 500 W/m2*K and T(infinity) = 25 degrees C.
Solve using a 1-D approximation first.
Then using a Finite difference solution with DX= 10 mm and DY = 2.5 mm.
Draw a schematic and label the node numbers. Draw CV and show each FD
for each node type. Show the system of equations in matrix form. Give a
numerical solution then make a temperature contour plot and calculate
the heat flux.
Note : The table 3.4 and the diagram of problem 4.87 is given below.
