  1. In your role as an Early Childhood Education and Care worker, you will need to check toys and equipment for potential risk and hazards that may cause harm to children.

Guidance: Include reporting procedures and the designated person that you would report to according to organisational procedures.

Suggested length: Part (a) and Part (B) can be answered with dot points. Part (C) requires the identification of a Policy followed by dot points to explain the procedures. Resources: CHC30113_Cluster 3_Learner Guide

Your Answer (a): In the risk analysis of the toys, it is necessary to follow the following steps:

In the risk analysis of the toys, one should ensure that the toys should comply with the AS/NZS ISO 8142, where applicable. Besides, one should ensure that the toys don’t have sharp edges or sharp points because they may harm the child. So, only provide those toys to the child which have soft edges or surfaces. Another thing that is needed to be ensured that the items which are used to store the toys don’t have kids because the child can get entraps into that store and may get harmed. Apart from these, it also needs to be ensured that the toys or the other playing items do not have toxic material or chemicals because they may be poisonous to the child and further cause harm to the child. Also ensures that the toys are not broken and there are no paint chips on the toys because their ingestion can be poisonous to the child (Childcare.extension.org, 2019).

Reference

  • Engineering controls- In this step, the child gets isolated from the hazard, by the installation of the screens and the barriers and also by marking off the hazardous areas.

  • Administrative controls- in this step the way of playing with toys can be changed. Suppose any child likes to play the ludo, then, in that case, the child can play it on a cell phone. In this way, it causes less harm to the child.

Policy:

Procedures: Add more bullet points as necessary.

  • Consult with staff members, contractors, and students regarding the health, safety, and well-being issues.

  • Regular reporting and application of learning from workplace events, risks, and miss outs.

  1. There are a number of workplace policies and procedures that will relate to WHS. Fill in the table below, identifying the main policy that would be observed in a centre and one (1) practice for each.

Suggested length: One sentence per box Resources: CHC30113_Cluster 3_Learner Guide
Area Policy Practice
Child Protection The educators need to identify the hazards and the risks associated with it, to mitigate the injuries. These policy or strategy need to ne practiced by the staff members, educators and other workers at the centre
Supervision of Children The setup of positive and the healthy environment improves the active supervision. This would also cover appropriate management and supervision of all the children, enrolled with he care centre, at all times. To achieve the purpose of this policy there needs to be active supervision for developing positive relationships between care givers, children, and their parents. The staff members need to administer ongoing assessment of the child and plan his future this way. For supervising the children adequately there are two requirements amongst educators – teamwork and effective communication.
Provision of Food This policy must support a healthy lifestyle, adequate nutrition, and overall health. The children's circumstances, their careers as well as their parents. The unique requirements of the disabled food allergies in youngsters, for example nutritional requirements, constraints, and Practices of religion and culture are also looked after. The same data would be used. shared with the appropriate for their family’s implementation in the home in the shape of nutritious meals This policy would be implemented by allowing the children at the care centre to acquire healthy eating habits and a high-nutrition diet at home, as well as having access to safe drinking water.
Hygiene and cleanliness The goal of the policy is to create a sanitary environment by promoting and executing appropriate hygienic practises for preventing cross-infection concerns and creating a safe workplace.
Children’s Medications

This policy would be enforced by administering the first dose of medication to the child at home, well before the child's return to child care. This will assist in determining the child's reaction to the drug.

If the child has a communicable ailment, health professionals recommend giving the child the same medication for 24 hours before returning to day-care. This is primarily to protect other children from infection while also allowing the youngster to recuperate quickly.

Ill Children The 'children who are unwell policy' requires educators and other caregivers to respond immediately to a child's illness and recognise its symptoms, particularly for those who show no signs of illness. Filling documents for completing procedure for the child requiring ambulance, filling hospital transfer form, maintaining the record for illness, maintaining documentation for dealing with high temperature, maintaining paracetamol medication register, and maintaining illness register are all part of the practise for the ill health policy.
Preventing accidents The policy aimed at preventing accidents tries to reduce the risks posed by the dangers that arise as a result of those incidents. Efforts would be made to reduce the risks to as low a level as practicable. This policy can be implemented by clearly defining the roles and duties for controlling the high risks posed by accidents, as well as meeting their training requirements.
Asthma/Anaphylaxis It is carried out by gathering medical information, teaching educators, implementing practical techniques for reducing trigger exposure, and educating children according to their age and multiple allergies.
Fire Emergency The policy covers the upkeep of clear exits from the building, the documentation of an evacuation plan, and directing individuals through a safe evacuation in an emergency. It can be practised by designating a separate person to direct individuals to the emergency exits and report any missing persons to the supervisor.
