CS2. CASE STUDY 2:

QUEENSFORD COLLEGE COMMUNITY SERVICES

Nearly a year ago, Maria and her husband lost some investments that they had been relying on and they were struggling to meet their mortgage repayments. Six months later Maria told Louise that they had to sell the property and downsize and there would be no room in the new house for Louise. They refused to repay more than Louise’s initial investment in the property even though Louise had spent that amount 15 years before and the property had appreciated greatly in value over that time.

A.7. In line with your organisation’s workplace policies and procedures, answer the following questions:

e. How does your organisation promote prevention of elder abuse?

f. What affects can abuse have on elders?

Observation Checklist

Task 1: Fred is 86 years old and is currently a client of another worker. You have been overhearing Fred complaining of knee pain for quite some time. His care plan indicates that one of his goals is to find out the source of the knee pain, as well as seeking advice in relation to the treatment of this pain. Fred has come to you to get some advice regarding this situation. You have let Fred know that they can speak with his worker together. Fred states that he has been asking him for a while, but continuously gets brushed off. You choose to speak with your supervisor instead who, with the consent of Fred, changes his worker to you. Fred has a GP appointment in which he is told he should get some physiotherapy for his knee. He sees a physiotherapist who gives Fred some exercises to do, along with physiotherapy sessions. After some time has passed Fred continues to complain that his knee is not getting any better.

Fred is concerned that he isn’t doing the exercises right and has come to you with his concerns.
