Executive summary

It is very vital to understand the influence of career planning, its correlation between career management and job satisfaction. Recent studies have revealed that there is a direct impact of career development on job commitment and job satisfaction (Bimrose and Hearne, 2012). In Today’s situation, it is important to plan every step related to the career, so that the desired goal could be achieved (Bimrose and Hearne, 2012). The report is divided into two sections that are my career and goal setting. In the first section, we have seen the importance of career management and career planning in achieving the goal in which the first step was reviewing and evaluating all the opportunities so that the best opportunities could be selected. All the opportunities explored were seen in Appendix A and the second part of the report, we have seen the importance of goal setting, as this gives the clarity about what initiatives need to be taken to reach the desired goal, for the goal-setting SMART goal setting was used and the goal was prioritized according to the preferences which can be seen in the Appendix. Lastly, this report has also given the conclusion which talks about the importance of career, career planning, and career management correlating with job satisfaction.

Introduction

My Career

After completion of my course, that is Masters in tourism and hotel management, I would like to pursue my career in the hospitality sector as a chef, even though I understand the nature of the job and the working condition of a chef is very challenging and only certain people can thrive in such a situation (Cassel, Thulemark and Duncan, 2017). To make myself a suitable person for the chef I need to grow myself more to accommodate the need of the industry that is to have a mastery in the culinary skills, good interpersonal communication skills, dedication towards the work and leadership quality. To make my career in this field the very first step I have taken that is exploring and researching all the alternatives and then setting goals to manage my career (Happell and Cleary, 2014).

Goal Setting

Career management (fig 1) is the process in which a person makes an informed decision regarding the chosen work life. From the above figure we can see how the individual should manage their careers, according to the model above, the researchers believe that individual should explore main opportunities/alternatives to assess themselves such as values, talents and so on. This is important for setting realistic career goals which are according to the person's ability and skills, this will also help them prioritizing their goals and establishing the strategy to attain these goals (Mikačić and Ovsenik, 2013).

  • Attainable: these goals are attainable this gives clarity on how the individual will reach their desired goal.

  • Relevant: helps the individual to understand what is relevant to achieve the desired goals.

In this phase, the central activity would be hiring the new cooks and training them also according to the hotel's requirement and inspecting all the cooking equipment The central activity in this phase would be looking for potential partners who have the same goals that are to establish a successful café Here the central activity would be to establish a café that will be in the name of Sole proprietorship where I will have a team of experts who will help me in fulfilling my goal.

MEASURABLE

To achieve this goal, I have to spend around 8-10 hour a day, to do my job efficiently. For this specific goal I’ll be need to spend around 2-4 hours for the process of hiring and for the training process ill be needing 2-3 hours to train the new employees about the work Here in this phase ill be needing a good networking skills and communication skills for achieving this goal Ill be needing around 15-20 workers who have expertise and knowledge in working in café
This goal can be achieved through the training, which will give me the expertise to handle these functions smoothly. To achieve this goal, I need to develop listening skills and attention on details for hiring process and for training the new chefs ill be need to develop good communication skills and Patience. To achieve this goal, I need to develop good networking and relationship building skills. For this goal I will be needing resources such as capital and furniture, fixture, crockery and so on for attaining the goal.

To achieve this goal, it is vital to learn how to mange all the work in certain time and how to deal with the multi-tasking work at the same time. It is important to have a good skill for evaluating the candidates and for the training it requires leadership skills. For this networking is very important and strategic thinking is also required. It is important to have clarity about the goals and ability to analyse the market risk beforehand to achieve this goal
