The mentor should have “cultural competence”. Cultural competence is simply defined as the awareness, knowledge, skills, practices and processes needed in interactions with people from different cultures. Therefore the mentor should be a person who already has an exposure to diverse cultures and understands them well. He/she should recognise differences among group members, their impacts and ways of working with them. In this manner he/she will identify the cultural expressions of emotions unique to Anton’s culture and utilise these to help the team respond to his emotional cues

Mentoring, guiding and counselling would assist encourage Anton to self-manager his/her emotions. Understanding of the language and being able to express his/her emotions would help him/her to adjust in a better way.
