Praxis 5001: Mathematics
Cardinal numbers : Numbers that indicate quantity, counting numbers (1, 2, 3)
Ordinal numbers : Numbers that describe position or order (first, second . . .)
Composite numbers : NOT prime. Whole numbers greater than 1 that have more than 2 different factors (4, 8, 12)
Greatest common factors : The largest factor that two or more numbers have in common.
Associative properties : The way numbers are grouped does not change the answer: addition- (a+b)+c=a+(b+c),Multiplication- (a+b)+c=ax(bxc)
Commutative properties : The way numbers are ordered in multiplication and division does change the answer (3x5 or 5x3 is the same)
Area of a circle : A=πr²
Circumference of a circle : 2πr
Hypotenuse : The side of a right triangle opposite the right angle (longest side)
Pythagorean theorem : a²+b²=c²
Sequence : A set of numbers, called terms, arranged in some particular order.
Arithmetic sequence : A sequence with the difference between two consecutive terms constant. The difference is called the common difference.
How many feet in a yard? : 3
How many yards in a mile? : 1760
What is the mean? : The average number
What is the median : The middle number
How many kilograms in a pound? : .45
Direct relationship : A relationship in which one variable increases with an increase in another variable. (y=kx)
