3. Describe the aim of the strengths-based approach to case management.
Strengths-based approach aims at assisting individuals to recognise their strengths and empowering them to identify and achieve personal goals. There is also an emphasis on the case manager relationship and self-determination (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017, p.4).4. Describe the emphasis of the rights-based approach to case management. Rights-based approach uses strategies to support people to attain their rights and emphasises the importance of human rights. It focuses on advocacy and addressing structural issues and barriers (Aspire Training and Consulting, 2017, p.4).
The immediate needs for things such as food and water are the highest priority needs of a person and they must be met immediately so that the person can survive (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017, p.5).
7. In order to effectively utilise case management processes, list two underpinning requirements that must be adhered to.
The Australian Privacy Principals (APPs) impact case management information as client’s personal information about them must be protected and only shared with others who have a right to see it (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017, p.6).
10. Describe one-way confidentiality impacts case management information.
The Community Work Practice Standard the addresses handling of information is Guideline 3: Confidentiality in the Workplace (ACWA).
13. Provide one example of an area in community services where statutory mandate applies.
It is based on the premise that personal factors, environmental factors and
behavioural factors influence on another and impact the persons functioning’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.10).16. Provide an example of how the planned behaviour theory may be put into practice. Planned behaviour theory can be put into practice to help an individual to identify the cause of them undertaking the behaviour. ‘For example, if a person realises they need to stop drinking alcohol the case manager can assist them to identify what leads them to consume alcohol’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.11).
Working in community services with clients and not imposing your personal values on them can be done through being non-judgemental and being aware of your communication skills so that you don’t give a positive or negative message through tour body language (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.14).
19. Briefly describe how you can incorporate a person’s value system into their case management plan.
21. Provide one aspect you need to take into account when working with a CALD person.
When working with a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) person you need to take into account their ethnicity or country of origin as eastern cultures differ in some ways to western cultures (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.16).
When working with people in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community there are aspects such as past and present attitudes and
stereotypes and individual needs and characteristics to consider (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.23).25. Provide two examples of homelessness.
- Discrimination, it is often subtle and linked to a sense of condescension and a lack of understanding of the capabilities of older people’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.29).
27. Provide two areas of legislation that are not relevant to child protection. Two areas of legislation that are not relevant to child protection are, consents to adoptions in the Adoption Act 1984 (Victorian Current Acts 2020) and family counselling in the Family Law Act 1975 (Federal Register of Legislation 2019).
30. Provide two aspects of a formal meeting process.
A formal meeting needs to include the processes of circulating an agenda prior to the meeting so that attendees can prepare to constructively participate in any
discussions, there also needs to be a minute taker so that the agreed actions, responsibilities and deadlines are documented (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.46).
It is important for a case manager to be familiar with a range of available services so that the person has access to all the possible options for addressing their needs and concerns (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.51).
33. Describe how the Universal Declaration of Human Rights underpins the rights of people involved in the decision-making process.
When providing case management support it is important to understand family dynamics as the roles within the family affect the dynamics and how members communicate with each other, family members behaviour may change depending on which roles are operating (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.53).

A behaviour indicator that may suggest abuse could be the person becoming withdrawn (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.72).
39. Provide one example where you may need to apply a strategy to deal with a complex and high-risk situation.
In a domestic violence situation, a case managers duty of care can be upheld by providing people with information about relevant legislation, policies, resources and services (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.76).
42. Describe a case managers duty of care in regards to suicide.
44. Describe a case managers duty of care in regards to people with disabilities.‘A case manager has a duty of care to prevent foreseeable harm to people with disabilities’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.78).
45. Explain why it is important to match the needs of the person with the experience, workload and geographical location of the worker or service provider.
‘A case manager could assist a person to achieve their targets by providing prompts and asking questions such as:
- What is the most important change you would like to make?- What steps do you envision yourself taking to make this change? …’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.82).
Feedback forms can be used to assess the need for change through analysing the feedback that was previously given to determine where, if any changes are required (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017 p.90).
50. Describe priority of the negotiation process when changing the case management plan.
Evidence-based practice focuses on applying the best available evidence to the persons circumstances and preferences. ‘The goal is to provide a more systematic approach to support coupled with rigorous documentation of assessments and outcomes, which will in turn clarify which strategies work best and will accelerate progress in quality of care’ (Aspire Training and Consulting 2017, p.96).
53. Provide one criterion that must be met before a case can be closed.
