with others outside of the workplace. Simply, we either pass along the wrong information, or we just fail to pass along valuable and correct information.”
Ways to Improve Communication in the Workplace
There have been several studies done with respect to improving communication in the workplace. Many different methods have been tried and found to work well for many other organizations facing similar issues involving communication. We are going to take a closer look at a few of these methods to see if we can narrow down where the issues are stemming from to see if those skills can’t be sharpened to improve the overall communications within the organization.

Becoming an Active Listener
What exactly is active listening? Active listening is essentially exactly what it sounds like, fully engaging yourself in the conversation. According to Skills You Need, “active listening involves listening with all senses. As well as giving full attention to the speaker, it is important that the ‘active listener’ is also ‘seen’ to be listening – otherwise the speaker may conclude that what they are talking about is uninteresting to the listener.” This especially plays a part when you are having a face-to-face conversation with someone. You can show that person that you are actively listening to them by maintaining eye contact, smiling, acting interested in what they are saying (ie. nodding, your posture, not fidgeting or looking around at their surroundings).
