Answer:
Sun is the ultimate source of energy. The rays coming from the sun get trapped in the atmosphere although not all of it. About 30% is reflected back to the space, 20% is being used up in heating the earth’s atmosphere and the 50% is used in heating the Land, water. The extent of energy fixation by the producers differs for different ecosystem. For crop Land Ecosystem which are most efficient ecosystem in energy fixation is about 5-7%. In the form of food potential energy is fixed by the producers. The potential energy in the food is passed from one trophic level to another and is given back to the outside of the living world i.e., again is set free in the atmosphere in the form of heat. At energy level of energy flow from producers i.e., plants to the carnivores there is a considerable amount of loss of energy as heat in to the atmosphere. There is 70% transfer of energy as it is transferred from one trophic level to another. The dead organisms also released heat energy in the atmosphere.
