    Explain the molecular orbitals?

Answer: A molecular orbital specify the electron configuration of a molecule. Molecular orbitals helps to understand the bonding of molecule with the help of molecular orbital theory. The coefficients are the weights of the contributions of the n atomic orbital to the molecular orbital. The bonding molecular orbital is generated from atomic s orbitals is called a σ (sigma) bonding molecular orbital.

For example, Hydrogen molecule: In hydrogen molecule, the atomic s orbitals of each atom are combined to form two molecular orbitals.
