    In earlier time Internet is used for remote terminal access for telnet, email, file transfer. The default File Transfer Protocol, defined in RFC 959. Many File Transfer Protocol offers users interface like Unix shell and allow the clients to browse the file systems on the server and send it to retrieves the file. File Transfer Protocol Servers configured in two modes:-

    authenticated. In this mode, the FTP server accepts users with valid users name and password. Once it verified then only users can access the files and directories with their permission.

    anonymous. In this mode, the clients provide anonymous user id and email id as password and access only public files.

    File Transfer protocol was most popular in 1990s and before 2000s and it has been suppressed by many new protocol. Now a days anonymous access is provided by web protocol. FTP was not invented for World Wide Web. The concept of hyper text was proposed in 1945 and first experiment were done during 1960s. The main innovation was implemented by World Wide Web was to allows hyperlinks to documents.
